Ugh… It’s October once again and I know very well what that means – INTRAMS.

Argh! I have nothing against the Intrams itself – it is a traditional activity in any school. It’s supposed to be fun. It’s supposed to be promoting camaraderie, teamwork, sportsmanship and unity among students. It would have been just fine if it was being what it was supposed to be!

Okay…Okay…Let me be very frank. What I don’t like are – the batch practices. Sorry excuse for practicing, I should say! It’s not practice at all! It’s TORTURE. My goodness! As I don’t get enough torture from studying ALL DAY…Ugh! My back hurts like crazy and I’m positive about the fact that I am about to get MAJOR BACK PROBLEMS (Right now, I think I have minor back pains. If this continues…Who knows what will happen to my back…)

It’s October 12! So, wherever you are, Lolo Prime, a happy birthday to you.

It’s been awhile since that day. We’ve pretty much moved on, though we can’t help but wish it didn’t happen every once and a while. Like today, if you were here, Lolo, you would’ve been 80 already. We would’ve been celebrating with a huge party with our big family, friends and other acquaintances whose lives you’ve touched.

But instead of that…We did the only thing we could do. We visited you at Loyola, prayed for you and spent time there as a family.

I wonder…What if it didn’t happen back then…What if you were still here…Would we all still be in this condition we are in? Would we all still be what we are now?

It’s truly a mystery how life works…What would happen, I would never really know…But as for what I am now, I am truly contented and happy. Thank God for everything!

So, wherever you are, Lolo, I know that you’re alright and very glad. A very happy birthday to you…We all miss you here. We love you.

Okay…Weird math equation there…Intrams + Exams = Big Explosion. But it more or less, if not PERFECTLY, implies how my head feels right now.

THE PRESSURE! Exams are coming up next week and I’ve barely started studying! Gah! It’s all because of those batch practices that require us to stay at school up to 5:30 pm, which means that we’ll be reaching home at about 6pm, tired, hungry and so sleepy. In that kind of state, how can they expect us to start studying? We’ll be too weak! We’ll just fall asleep the moment we try to open our textbooks! In fact, it already took us HALF of the ENERGY we had left just to force ourselves to do our assignments GIVEN ON THAT DAY which in turn HAVE TO BE PASSED THE FOLLOWING DAY. Argh!

Anyway, I want the Intrams and the exams over and done with. I cannot wait for the sembreak! Finally, a whole week to just relax and not think of any homework or project…

This was written for my closest friends, right in time for our second year closing ceremony. It was inspired by Fullmetal Alchemist and is something I think everyone should consider as we go on with life…

The Theory of Equivalent Exchange

                Everything has value in this world. And though we each have our own desires in life, we must all take note of the theory of equivalent exchange. Simply put, it states that to achieve a particular something, one must give up something of equivalent value. One must sacrifice present happiness in order to gain happiness in the future. It is the way of the world.

                Thus, in accordance with the theory of equivalent exchange, take note of the following:

·          If you wish for your hardship and suffering to come to an end, then you must put an end to the hardship and suffering you cause other people.

·          If you wish to receive something, a gift or blessing perhaps, then you must give and share generously and wholeheartedly.

·          If you wish to be treated kindly, be respected and honored for who you are as a person, then you must also treat others kindly, respect them and honor them for who they really are.

·          If you wish to have a happy and fruitful future, then you first must have patience and determination in the present.

·          If you wish to someday reach the top, then you must first experience what it means to be in the bottom so as to keep things in balance.

It is the way of the world. In order to achieve something, you must first give up something of equivalent value. Live accordingly, knowing that each and every one of your actions would someday bear fruit.

As this school year ends, keep into mind that all the efforts we’ve made will indeed prove their worth. And even if the theory of equivalent exchange occurs in our world, remember that we have a Father in Heaven, who gives us guidance and strength without ever expecting anything, neither of equivalent nor greater nor lesser value, in return. Trust in Him and surely, your life will be filled with nothing but true happiness.

Argh! I can’t believe this! What on earth is happening to me?

Yesterday, we had this quiz in Geometry. It was simple enough – application of the Pythagorean theorem, meaning PROBLEM SOLVING. Well, though it was simple enough, I…I…FAILED! I misread the given on the board and thus ended up NOT understanding Problem#1 which turned out to be so easy, if only I had READ THE GIVEN CORRECTLY! Argh! What was worse…I also MISUNDERSTOOD Problem#4! That’s TWO out of FOUR problems WRONG! FAILURE! Argh! No way! No way! No way!

That happening caused uncontrollable rise of emotions inside of me and because of that, my alter-ego appeared – “Yami Angeli”, she called herself. In other words, she was my dark side. She was the complete opposite of me – loud, mean and just plain rude. Well, Yami Angeli’s stay in the world didn’t last long, thank goodness. She disappeared after I , the real Angeli, got back to my senses and calmed down.

What a weird experience – turning into your other self. It felt natural and at the same time, unnatural. Perfectly weird, indeed.

No words will be enough to express how I feel right now. Know why? I finally got my one moment of pride, which is a once-in-a-lifetime happening for people like me, and it just simply had to get in the way. What’s that it, you ask? Well, it’s no other than the great power of GUILT.

Oh GUILT…GUILT…GUILT…Why must you come now and destroy my one moment of pride? This was the first time I had something to feel good about myself and yet, you came and seemingly slapped me in the face, dropping me from my temporary place in the clouds back to the ground on which I truly belong.

Well, it’s not that I’m questioning the fact that it is absolutely necessary to remain down-to-earth despite having whatever. It IS beyond reasonable doubt NECESSARY to remain down-to-earth. HOWEVER, BUT, ON THE CONTRARY…I am not saying that one cannot have his or her moments of pride, provided that it comes within the right sense. PRIDE, when definied from the dictionary, would mean satisfaction with self: the happy satisfied feeling somebody experiences when having or achieving something special that other people admire; proper sense of own value: the correct level of respect for the importance and value of your personal character, life, efforts, or achievements. However, it can also pertain to the feeling of superiority: a haughty attitude shown by somebody who believes, often unjustifiably, that he or she is better than others. If one’s pride falls under the THIRD DESCRIPTION, that’s when things get different. But if one’s pride is but a sense of feeling happy about one’s self, there is, of course, nothing wrong with it!

Ugh…See, there’s nothing wrong with having a moment of pride! Why, GUILT? Why did you have to destroy it? Why? Why? Why?!!! Argh!

I might never get the chance to feel good about myself…unless some kind of miracle is intented to happen for me tomorrow. Perhaps I really am getting a bit too proud of myself. Am I? I thought I was just temporarily feeling happy about myself.

Again, I say that no words will ever be enough to describe how I feel. And yet, it looks like I’ve already used more than 300 words. How queer…

Today’s the distribution of cards for the 1st Quarter. In other words, we are all going to die.

We have half-day schedule for today to give way for that distribution. The whole morning, I was so nervous that I almost couldn’t concentrate on the lessons. But I made it through… When afternoon finally came, well…

The rankings were announced and I was extremely relieved and happy when I found out that I was able to maintain by rank! Thank God! Top 1 again… Thank you so much! I couldn’t be happier! My friends also got good ranks! Congratulations to all of you guys! Keep up the good work!

Dad came and got my card. The results were good. It was a miracle!

Surprisingly, we didn’t die today…It’s truly a miracle! We made it through the day!

Glory and praise be to God the Almighty!

I’m in school and I’ve got this horrible headache. I’ll make this short since we’ve only got 15 minutes left of Computer time.

Well, I’m sick. I’ve got a bad case of the sniffles. Ugh… And to make things worse, we still have Filipino and AP later this afternoon. Plus, I have a debate training session.

Argh!!! Headache!!!

I’m only left with that hope that we won’t be given homework today. I need time to rest. I also need time to prepare for the CMLI debate which is on Saturday already!!!
